The High-performance Linear Drive Motor structure has a large magnet that is almost as big as the voice coil diameter. Its dual radial magnet and twin gap combined with a square, edge-wound voice coil gives the diaphragm linear movement over a much greater range. This means the speaker is faithful to the input signal even during high excursion, for accurate musical reproduction and deep bass.

Continuing into 2009 are the Picasso Subwoofers. These aggressive new subs are engineered from the ground up. The new motors yield more power handling than the previous drivers and are specific per size. Past experience proves that one-size-fitsall motors for 10”-15” subs does not yield top performance. The drivers feature polypropylene cones and NBR rubber surrounds for durability. The PXW subwoofers are available in dual 4-ohm coils or dual 2-ohm coils for versatility.

More than the sum of the parts the IDQ V.3 is an extreme evolution in IDQ subwoofer performance. With increased excursion, new suspension design, higher power handling they play lower and louder than ever before with improved sound quality, the true balance of power and grace.
The all new IDQ V.3 subwoofers redefine performance for small enclosure subwoofers. Articulate and detailed with proper tonal accuracy at even extreme volume levels. They provide the incredible dynamic impact necessary while attaining extreme low frequency extension from the smallest of enclosure sizes.
Every part was engineered from the ground up, and is the result of substantial experience in subwoofer design. Motor structures were optimized for long symmetrical linear excursion and low distortion performance using the latest finite element analysis software. The cone was engineered to increase stiffness while reducing mass. The voice coil were engineered to keep mass to a minimum so that a high compliance suspension could be used. This maximizes efficiency and output over the subwoofers entire frequency range.
The FSC (Field Serviceable Core) allows you to custom match the basket color to your installation. Another feature of the FSC is if the subwoofer ever requires service it allows you to replace the whole moving assembly quickly and easily.

They are a radical departure from conventional design that signifies a major advancement in driver technology and performance. The result, a truly musical, long excursion, ultra-high SPL subwoofer. Even at the lowest fundamental frequencies the IDMAX effortlessly reproduces the music faithfully with transient detail and tonal accuracy that is the result of very low harmonic distortion. Combine the musical abilities of the IDMAX with its ability to produce truly violent SPL levels and this subwoofers popularity is quickly understood.
The IDMAX12 has 90.5% more linear displacement than an IDQ12 V.2 with no increase in moving mass. This is a real feat of engineering that truly yields MAX-imum output potential. With our proprietary voice coil design and massive motor structure we MAX-mized thermal power handling while reducing thermal power compression. Massive excursion engineered in the IDMAX boasts a SPL producing 24.9 mm one-way linear excursion (Xmax) with a 3.70" peak-to-peak (Xsus) mechanical excursion.
Larger cone area is the result of our unique and original parabolic surround profile allowing the IDMAX to achieve very long excursion without reducing cone area. Since very little of the surround of a long excursion subwoofer actually contributes to the displacement of the subwoofer the reduced cone diameter of a wide surround design results in lower displacement requiring a substantial increase in linear Xmax just to equal the displacement of the IDMAX.
To MAX-imize performance Image Dynamics has invested in tooling all of the proprietary parts necessary. You won't find this performance or these parts in any other subwoofer. The parts that make this subwoofers superior performance possible are the result of finite element analysis combined with real world testing and product development.
The IDMAX performance is truly unique of long excursion subwoofers as they achieve high SPL even from small amplifiers. The IDMAX12 will produce the same output watt per watt as our IDQ12 subwoofers. The reason for this is the IDMAX is like a Formula 1 Race car where advanced engineering, materials, and assembly techniques are utilized to maximize performance. Every part of the IDMAX was engineered to be extremely strong, yet super light in weight. The low moving mass of the IDMAX requires less suspension stiffness to balance the mass to the compliance for proper cone control at high power levels. Lower moving mass in a speaker results in higher efficiency because more power is being used to create sound rather than overcome weight. Softer high compliance suspensions also result in higher efficiency because less of your precious amplifier power is being used to overcome the stiffness of the suspension. So even with moderate power levels as low as 100 watts the IDMAX subwoofers will produce high output levels and with high power levels they will produce truly explosive and violent levels of clean undistorted sub-bass.
